Bill grew up in the Detroit, MI area, graduating from Plymouth-Canton (now simply "Canton") high school. He received his B.S., summa cum laude, in chemistry from Eastern Michigan University. Bill attended graduate school at Northwestern University, receiving a Masters Degree and a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry while working in the laboratories of Joseph B. Lambert, a recipient of the Frederick Stanley Kipping Award for excellence in silicon chemistry (see: Kipping Award).
Bill's first role after graduate school was as a "Senior Research Chemist" at the Monsanto Agricultural Products Company, where he worked in the "Process Environmental" group. Bill moved to the Dow Corning Corporation in July 1985, and worked there until his retirement in February 2015. While at Dow Corning Bill held positions in Corporate Research (where he worked with F.S. Kipping awardee John Speier), Intermediates, Life Sciences R&D/TS&D, Liquid Silicone Rubber Product Development, Organofunctional Siloxanes Product Development, Business & Technology Incubator (Bio-silicon, Si-organics, Si-inorganics - "day after tomorrow" technology development), Pulp & Paper, and Electronics. He also started up fundamental technology groups in the areas of Fluids, Emulsions, Sealants, Rubber Products, and Organofunctional Siloxanes. Bill was also heavily involved in contracts and patents throughout his career, leading several "patent management committees" for a variety of different product lines/industries.
Bill's true passion while at Dow Corning was in bringing new technologies and products to customers. Bridging the gap between science and practical uses for science provided a natural path to the customer; Bill is the inventor or co-inventor on more than 75 U.S. Patents/Patent Applications, and more than 200 global patents/patent applications - most relating to new materials with specific utility or to the use of materials in new application areas. Having retired from the Dow Corning Corporation, Bill founded, and is the Principal and sole member of, No T Consulting, LLC. This company was founded in March, 2015 in Midland, MI. Bill and his wife, Sally, relocated to Peoria, AZ in 2016, and an Arizona LLC was formed into which the original company was merged in June, 2016. The company continues to operate from this location.
